Apapa Area Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Abubakar bags promotion to the rank of Acting Assistant Comptroller General of Customs for refusing a $420,000 (US) bribe. The Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ali (Rtd) administered the promotion.
The said bribe was offered by a man who reportedly smuggled 41 containers of Tramadol into the country and wanted them cleared at the Apapa port.
Many believe that those who take Tramadol are at a high risk of being addicted to the drug. Other more disturbing side effects include dizziness, difficulty in falling asleep, headache, constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, sweating, nausea, and dry mouth, etc.
According to reports, Mr Abubakar’s promotion has been confirmed to the media by the National Public Relations Officer of Customs, Deputy Comptroller, Joseph Attah, adding that Mr Bashir Abubakar has been transferred to the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.
Dear reader, what can you say about what Mr Abubakar did, should one consider this a special act or anyone could have done same, giving the huge sum? Does his promotion send any message to all Nigerians? Can we say Nigeria is finally headed towards a direction many look forward to?
